Q: What does the Community Gardens Project do?
A: We assist new and existing groups with siting, planning, and organizing community gardens. We provide volunteers, garden materials, and information to help the gardens flourish.

A:Gardens can be built and maintained by groups of neighbors, members of agencies, faith-based groups or schools.
The Scott Park Community Garden is tucked away in the middle of downtown Decatur.

Q: How many community gardens are there?
A: There about 175 active gardens with between 12 and 50 plots each.
Q: Where are community gardens planted?
A: Gardens are planted anywhere there is available space, from abandoned vacant lots to unused grassy patches to old railroad beds to apartment building greenspace.
Q: What is done with the gardens' yield?
A: Almost all of the vegetables harvested in community gardens are used by the gardeners themselves. Some is donated to partner agencies of the Food Bank.

A: It really takes a community to plant and maintain a community garden so make sure you have a committed group of people before you dig. Q: What is the goal of the Community Gardening Project?
A: The goal is to increase the quantity and quality of community gardens in the Metro Atlanta area as part of the Atlanta Community Food Bank's mission to fight hunger by engaging, educating, and empowering the community.
