How to volunteer

All volunteers must register with the volunteer contact at least one week in advance. See our Frequently Asked Questions for guidelines.

Volunteers are needed throughout the year to improve the quantity and quality of community gardens in Atlanta. Projects include gardening, advising, clean-up, plant rescue, plant shows, and produce collection. Schedules are flexible from Monday through Saturday. Most projects last about three hours. Volunteers should dress appropriately for current weather conditions and wear closed-toed shoes.

Group size: Small groups from 5-25 are welcome

Safety Guidelines

  • Ages:
    8 years old and older. Adults must accompany high school age and younger.
  • Chaperones:
    Chaperones must participate as volunteers with the children/youth. One adult chaperone is needed for every:
    • Four children ages 10 and under
    • Six children ages 11-13
    • Ten children ages 14-17
  • Clothing:
    All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Other:
    • This project is not appropriate for those who cannot do moderate lifting (20-40 lbs) or stand for prolonged periods.
    • If any special accomodations are needed, please contact the volunteer contact one week in advance of the scheduled visit.
