What is the Product Rescue Center?
Constantly buzzing with activity, the Product Rescue Center (PRC) is the area
of the Food Bank where all food drive and salvaged food items are brought to be
inspected and packaged by volunteers for distribution to more than 800 nonprofit
partner agencies.
Food Bank trucks pick up goods from food drives, grocery stores and manufacturers,
and drop them off at the Product Rescue Center every day. Teams of trained
volunteers then inspect, sort and pack these goods. This area of operation is crucial
to the Food Bank as it ensures that salvage and food drive donations will be safe and
wholesome for distribution to people in need.
The Product Rescue Center provides great hands-on experience in a social atmosphere. It's ideal for groups ages eight and up, and individuals are also welcome.
800 - 1000 volunteers each month sort and pack food boxes at the PRC.

Days and times:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - noon
Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Safety Guidelines
- Ages:
8 years old and older. Adults must accompany high school age and younger.
- Chaperones:
Chaperones must participate as volunteers with the children/youth. One adult chaperone is needed for every:
- Four children ages 10 and under
- Six children ages 11-13
- Ten children ages 14-17
- Clothing:
All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.
- Other:
- This project is not appropriate for those who cannot do moderate lifting (20-40 lbs) or stand for prolonged periods.
- If any special accomodations are needed, please contact the volunteer contact one week in advance of the scheduled visit.
